I've been busy chopping wood and building shelters at the woods this week. I did manage to get a few snaps though. I found these beautiful fungi in the mature woodland, swathes of wild scabious providing food for the bees and butterflies. Today I found these delicate little footprints in the riverside meadow, I think they are from the fox, although they're pretty small so could be a youngster.

A little fungal foray
I went for a little wander around the woods today and found these. Next time I want to try and I'd them, I've got the book, just need the time!

Forest School session 1 wildlife
It was our first public session and 10 lovely 5 year olds from Bideford came for a day of exploring and playing in the woods. During the day we saw a nice little variety of creatures including the slow worm and little toad in the pictures. we also saw loads of massive slugs, lots of beetles and a few spotted some mice or voles. walking through the woods we found some lovely little animal homes saw signs of squirrels in the empty hazel nuts and the raven even made an appearance just as I was pointing out their nest. Some of the children were hoping for tigers and even sharks but we were all pretty excited with today's encounters.

Recent Wildlife Sightings
Recently I've been busy preparing the site for the new school year and opening for business. In my trips around the site I've had some nice nature encounters and even managed to get a few pictures.
This week in the neighbouring meadow I heard some movement and manged to get within about 10 metres of this deer before it hopped effortlessly over the fence.
Whilst moving an unused fire pit I accidentally disturbed a little family of voles, this is a picture of the mother vole checking about the site, making sure that her littter of babies were back where she wanted them.
In July I smelt an awful smell and noticed lots of flies. Insteead of finding a rotting corpse I found this stinkhorn fungus.
